Bird’s Eye View
The general shape of the pod has three curved roofs reflecting the interior programs.

passive Alaskan pod

Located on Jewel Lake in Anchorage, Alaska this home/pod provides multiple views of the surrounding water, mountains, and snow frosted trees. This 100 square foot design has the essential living spaces arranged in a split-level house style, where each program is separated by a few steps.

The height difference provides views from different angles and also smaller, easier to heat spaces. To further meet passive energy requirements, the design considers the sun orientation, insulation, and a curved roof, as is presented. Please download the pdf for more details.

on architecture & conception

I never thought that taking a survey or listening in on a lecture would determine entirely what I would do with the rest of my life, but sometimes it happens. It is those spontaneous moments that always amuse me, like finding that perfect building form while eating potato chips.
